  17.   Workstation Version 3.5 (final release, build 807). Any installation
  18.   under a beta or so-called "release candidate" Windows NT version is
  19.   possible, but may not function properly.

  55. 2.2.) Hardware installation
  56.  
  57.   Install your graphics board as described in the Hardware Manual
  58.   supplied with your board.

  61. 2.3.) Driver installation
  62.  
  63.   It is required that you have installed Windows NT 3.5 with a
  64.   graphics driver for your VGA board.
  65.  
  66.   a) In the "main" group start the "Control Panel" program.
  67.  
  68.   b) Start the "Display Tool" to select/change the video display.
  69.  
  70.   c) In the "Display Settings" window click the "Change Display Type"
  71.      button.
  72.  
  73.   d) In the "Display Type" window you get information on the current
  74.      display driver. Click the "Change" button.
  75.  
  76.   e) The "Select Device" window offers an overview of all display
  77.      drivers supplied with Windows NT 3.5. Click the "Other" button.
  78.  
  79.   f) In the "Install From Disk" window you are requested to insert
  80.      the installation disk "A:\". If necessary, overwrite the default
  81.      selection. Click "OK" to confirm.
  82.  
  83.   g) The "Select Device" window appears again. At the end of the
  84.      display driver list there is also the driver for your miro board.
  85.      Select the "miroCRYSTAL" driver for all boards
  86.      supported by this installation disk. Click the "Install" button.
  87.      Confirm the following warning.
  88.  
  89.   h) If you had already installed the driver, you are asked whether
  90.      you want to install the old or the new driver. Start the
  91.      installation of a new driver by clicking the "New" button.
  92.  
  93.   i) You are requested again to insert the installation disk
  94.      under A:\. If necessary, overwrite the default. To confirm the
  95.      installation, click the "Continue" button. When the message about
  96.      a successful installation appears confirm. Confirm the message
  97.      telling you that the driver is only available after restarting
  98.      the computer.
  99.  
  100.   j) You can restart the computer immediately by clicking "Restart Now"
  101.      in the "Display settings change" window. You can also click the
  102.      "Don┤t Restart Now" button to go back to the "Display type" window.
  103.      To close this window click "Close". To close the "Display settings"
  104.      window click "OK". Use the Program Manager to restart the system.
  105.  
  106.   k) After the restart the driver which has just been installed is
  107.      active with the lowest resolution (640 x 480, 256 colours, 60 Hz).
  108.      To change this setting, proceed with 2.4.).
  109.  
  110.   If problems occur with the display driver when restarting
  111.   the system, you can reselect the VGA driver by using the
  112.   "Windows NT Version 3.5 [VGA mode]" option in the boot menu.
  113.   If this doesn`t solve the problem use the "last good menu"
  114.   option to reselect the old configuration.
  115.  
  116.   If this does not help either, use the Windows-NT-setup-disk/-CD
  117.   and the "Emergency Repair Disk" to repair your system. The
  118.   "Emergency Repair Disk" should include a configuration with a
  119.   VGA driver "640x480, 16 colors" because your system runs properly
  120.   with this driver in any case. To repair your system select the
  121.   "Inspect configuration registry" and "SYSTEM (System Configuration)"
  122.   options only.

  124.   If your system uses another display driver, you need the
  125.   installation disk to enable the "miroCRYSTAL" driver again.
  126.   You can, however, use the driver already installed on your
  127.   hard disk by clicking the "Current" button (see h)).

  130. 2.4.) Changing the resolutions
  131.  
  132.   a) In the "main" group start the "Control Panel" program.
  133.  
  134.   b) Start the "Display Tool" to select/change the video display.
  135.  
  136.   c) The "List All Modes" button lists the resolutions your
  137.      board supports and the number of colours and frequencies.
  138.      Double-click to select a resolution.
  139.  
  140.   d) You can also use the "Desktop area" slider, the
  141.      "Color Palette" and the "Refresh Frequency" windows to
  142.      select a resolution. Keep in mind that the settings are
  143.      interdependent. If you select an invalid setting, the
  144.      other options change so that a valid setting is restored.
  145.  
  146.   e) To check the selected resolution in a testscreen, click
  147.      the "Test" button and confirm.
  148.  
  149.      - Is the selected resolution/frequency displayed on the monitor?
  150.      - Is the correct resolution specified?
  151.      - Are the arrows in the testscreen margins visible?
  152.      - Are the coloured and the hatched areas displayed correctly?
  153.  
  154.   f) After five seconds the testscreen disappears and you see the
  155.      workspace again. If the resolution on the testscreen is OK,
  156.      confirm the "Testing Mode" window with "Yes".
  157.  
  158.   g) You can restart the computer immediately by clicking "Restart Now"
  159.      in the "Display settings change" window. You can also click the
  160.      "Don┤t Restart Now" button to go back to the "Display type" window.
  161.      To close this window click "Close". To close the "Display settings"
  162.      window click "OK". Use the Program Manager to restart the system.

  164.   h) After the restart the new resolution is active.
  165.  
  166.   i) If you do not like the resolution, click "No" in the "Testing Mode"
  167.      window. After another message has appeared, you are back in the
  168.      "Display Settings" window. Select another resolution and continue
  169.      with e) or close the Display Tool by clicking the "Cancel" button.

  171.   The "Font Size" window allows you to select another font size
  172.   (see d)). If you have not installed the fonts of the selected
  173.   size, you are requested to insert the installation disk under
  174.   A:\. Overwrite the default with the drive letter of you CD drive
  175.   and enter the path \i386. Insert the Windows NT Version 3.5 CD
  176.   in your CD drive so that the required files can be copied to your
  177.   hard disk.

  180. 2.6.) Supported resolutions and frequencies
  181.  
  182.   The driver timings come close to the VESA standard.
  183.   Horizontal and vertical refresh rates are approximate data and
  184.   may change with the technical and market development.
  185.   The timings for the 1408x1024 resolutions are not part of
  186.   the VESA standards but are adapted to them by miro.

  208. 4.) Deleting drivers
  209.  
  210.   Delete drivers you do not need anymore by enabling
  211.   another driver using the Display Tool of the Control
  212.   Panel program and by restarting the sytem afterwards.
  213.   Then use the File Manager to delete the display driver
  214.   (extension .DLL) under \WINNT35\SYSTEM32 and the
  215.   miniport driver (extension .SYS) under
  216.   \WINNT35\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS.

  219. 5.) In case of problems
  220.  
  221.   In case of problems with the VGA DOS box in the
  222.   fullscreen mode ask your dealer or miro for an update
  223.   of the BIOS-ROM. In some cases an unsynchronized image
  224.   may stabilize by switching between the window and the
  225.   fullscreen mode of the VGA DOS box.
  226.  
  227.   The VGA DOS boxs only supports the resolutions
  228.   available for a 'standard VGA', e.g. display modes of
  229.   up to 320x200 pixels with 256 colors or 640x480 pixels
  230.   with 16 colors. If a DOS application tries to use a
  231.   higher resolution, the VGA DOS box, or, in the worst
  232.   case, the hole system might crash.

  234.   miroTWINFACE dual-screen configuration and miro Video Address 
  235.   (Control Panel extension) are not available for miroRAINBOW Win, 
  236.   miroMAGIC S4, miroCRYSTAL 32S miroCRYSTAL 24S and miroCRYSTAL 16S.
